Sant Cugat asks for a plan to reopen Collserola

The September plenary session in Sant Cugat has approved requesting a plan to prepare for the reopening of Collserola when health conditions allow, in addition to direct aid for the sectors affected by the access restriction.

The motion, promoted by CUP and En Comú Podem and amended by the local government, was carried with the support of Junts, ERC, En Comú Podem and PP, the abstention of VOX and the vote against of PSC. The debate comes ten months after the appearance of African swine fever and in a context of restrictions still in force on access to the park.

From the municipal government, Bernat Picornell has defended the need to take extreme precautions, call for greater coordination with the Govern and ask for safe corridors to enter and leave the park. He has also insisted that aid must reach entities and sectors such as restaurants, the Club Muntanyenc Sant Cugat, the Unió Ciclista Sant Cugat or cooperatives with school activity, directly, and not be limited to the channels of the ICF.

For its part, Junts, Carles Brugarolas has argued that the amendments strengthen the motion and has criticized the Govern's communication, considering that it has contributed to making the public too relaxed. He has also recalled that access to the natural environment and the control of African swine fever can be compatible if progress is made with progressive flexibilization, communication and support for businesses.

In defense of the proposal, Juanma Cayuelas has called for defined safe routes by the Policia Local, rural officers and Mossos d'Esquadra so that, when possible, citizens can return to Collserola with guarantees. Ariadna Sierra has defended a progressive reopening compatible with health control, while Álvaro Benejam has considered it reasonable to relax the restrictions by area. The only vote against was that of the PSC, which has defended that the decision must follow scientific criteria and has warned of the risk of a premature reopening.
